The Shawn Coss Tarot
The Shawn Coss Tarot is a wholly original creation, four years in the making, that places humanoid creatures and hyenas at the center of each card. Coss drew and revised every image multiple times until he felt each figure had emerged with the right quality, resulting in a deck that is unmistakably his own. The standard tarot structure and card lexicon are intact beneath the surface, but the imagery carries his signature aesthetic, dark, slightly off-kilter, and strangely compelling.

Shawn Coss is a dark art illustrator from Ohio who has worked professionally as an independent artist for nearly a decade, including work as an artist for the webcomic series Cyanide and Happiness. He is also a co-owner of Any Means Necessary, an Ohio-based lifestyle brand. In 2016 he created the Inktober Illness series, a set of mental health-focused illustrations that significantly shifted his artistic direction toward work that opens conversation around psychological experience.
