Tarot of the Owls Deck and Guidebook

The Tarot of the Owls grew out of a collaboration between tarot expert Pamela Chen and illustrator Elisabeth Alba, and the result is a deck that takes its central metaphor seriously without becoming precious about it. Owls from around the world serve as guides through the Major and Minor Arcana, organized into four parliaments for the suits and a royal court of ruling owls. Each bird is specific and beautifully rendered, which gives the deck both visual consistency and a sense of genuine natural variety.

Alba's illustrations are done in ink, watercolor, and gouache, and have the warm, hand-crafted quality that makes a deck feel like something you want to hold. The 209-page full-color guidebook by Pamela Chen covers card meanings in both upright and reversed positions, alongside tips and spreads for building personal reading skills.
