Believed to be among the oldest known Visconti decks, the Visconti di Modrone is a window into the early Renaissance. Each card is a hand-crafted work of art that reveals something of the costume, artistic traditions, and beliefs of fifteenth-century northern Italy. Though the deck differs substantially from modern tarot in structure and imagery, the neoplatonic ideals embedded by its creators foreshadow the symbolic language that tarot would develop over the following centuries. Il Meneghello made this edition by hand with characteristic care and passion.
