Old English Tarot Deck

Maggie Kneen drew her inspiration for this deck from the Luttrell Psalter, a fourteenth-century English manuscript filled with illustrations of peasant life, religious ceremony, and the daily rhythms of medieval England. The manuscript’s intricate heraldic borders and bold color choices are carried directly into the tarot, giving the cards a distinctive look that feels genuinely historical rather than simply nostalgic. The imagery invites slow, reflective reading, creating an atmosphere of quiet and unhurried attention that suits both meditation and divination. Kneen also works with archaeologists and architectural historians to create reconstruction drawings of buildings that no longer exist, and that same commitment to bringing the past vividly forward shapes every card in this deck.
