The Gilded Tarot Royale is a 2020 reworking of Ciro Marchetti's original 2004 debut deck, now with borders removed and the colors deepened into richer jewel tones. The imagery draws from Italian Renaissance art, Steampunk aesthetics, and Commedia dell'arte, populated with magicians, priestesses, emperors, and armored knights. The card stock is beautiful and the imagery reads well even at a distance, making this an excellent choice for someone just beginning to work with tarot. Note that despite the name, the cards do not have gold foil or gold-painted edges.
Ciro Marchetti is an award-winning artist from the United Kingdom who studied art in London before building a career working across Europe and South America. He eventually settled in the United States and opened a design agency in Miami, where he also teaches workshops on digital illustration at the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute.
