Jean-Baptiste Alliette, who published under the name Etteilla, was an 18th century French occultist who did more than almost anyone else to establish tarot as a tool for divination. Working in Paris, he popularized card reading for wide audiences and is considered the first professional tarot reader to make his living from the practice. He also published what is believed to be the first tarot deck specifically designed for occult use, with correspondences to astrology, the four classical elements, and the four humors. This vintage facsimile reproduction includes the full 78-card deck with French card names and a guide booklet.
